Autism Assessment
Our Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment is comprehensive and involves collaboration with parents/caregivers and/or any/all other professional(s) that have been or are involved in the lives of the individuals being assessed. The entire process spans at least 3 sessions: the first includes either the adult client or parent/caregiver interview to complete a full biopsychosocial assessment, the second session will be with the adult or child client to conduct the testing/scoring, while the third session involves reviewing results, resources, and treatment recommendations.
Both the child and adult ASD assessment includes a one-hour observational session with Dr. Brandal as the examiner, which is then scored to determine if child/adult behaviors are consistent with symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. Prior to the observational session, Dr. Brandal will meet with the adult client or child client’s parent/caregiver to complete an interview and thorough biopsychosocial evaluation that will aid in the diagnostic process. If the child is in school, Dr. Brandal will seek to interview the child’s teacher(s) for additional information. Dr. Brandal will also ask to see the most recent history and physical evaluation from a primary care physician or pediatrician, as well as any evaluations completed by an occupational therapist, physical therapist, or speech language pathologist that may have been done prior to meeting with Dr. Brandal. All questionnaires, evaluations and interviews are thoroughly reviewed, interpretations of the results are completed, available resources are determined/referred, and treatment options are recommended, all of which are provided in a professionally written document that you can share with your treatment providers.
